One of the worst tools ever...
This adapter is the worst when it's time to remove it from the tool. i can understand wanting a nice tight fit but, when I have to start using other tools to try and remove it from the tool it's in, that's going too far. Whoever the person is in R&D at DeWalt that came up with this adapter is...they need to take the design back to the drawing board and redesign the releases on it. This one deserves to have a recall on it.

I have 2 (18) volt tools which cost about $300 to replace. The adaptors are just what the doctor ordered since I have 20 v tools and batteries also. I just leave the adaptors in the 2 tools and use the 20 volt batteries when I want to use the tools.

I bought two of these when first introduced by DeWalt, one for my 18v circular saw, one for the 18v 1/2 inch drill. It's a great concept, and does allow me to still use them. However, the battery life is pretty poor. Leaving them attached to the tools overnight drains the batteries. The batteries only charge to 2 of 3 bars. I bought 2 kits, which allows me to rotate 4 batteries and keep 2 charging at all times. I really wish that DeWalt would offer better battery options for use with the adapters. It's a good thing I no longer rely on these converted 18v tools to make a living. If I did I would only be able to work for a half day.
These are good for around the house small jobs, but I would not rely on them professionally.

haven't had this long enough to comment on longevity of charge but I figured out pretty quickly that to remove the adaptor you have to squeeze the buttons right near the top. Comes out as easily as any other battery powered tool I've ever used which is to say not perfect but doable. They are all a little finicky.

works ok but the dang thing is just about impossible to get off of the tool, if you want to use it on multiple tools you will get frustrated trying to swap it multiple times.

Great option for older 18V DeWalt cordless tools
Was gifted a few DeWalt 18V cordless tools (drill, saw & charger, but no batteries. After several years of trying to source batteries a friend told me about this kit that came with adapter, batteries & charger. Kit price was just a little higher than a single, old, hard to find DeWalt 18V battery! Has worked well with my DC390 cordless saw. Only complaint is the release tabs of the adapter are a bugger-bear to release from the saw. Have been using for a month.

Extended the life of my 20+ year old 4 tool set.
After 20 + years and multiple sets of batteries I purchased this adapter 2+ years ago.
This has extended the life of my tool set into the Li Ion age.
The tools last longer on the job and I may yet be able to get another 10 years out of this tool set.
The adapter & newer Li Ion batteries look a bit funky, but you soon get used to it.

Revitalizar for 18v Tools!
I have had this since June 2018 (now Dec. 2020) and it has saved me from having to buy a completely new set of tools at once. Instead, I can just transition one tool at a time and still use the 20v batteries. I’ve added another to my wish list because I think this adapter is so helpful.

Works & allowed me to use my older tools, BUT
I bought this as I did not want to buy any 18 volt Nickel Cad batteries when I could get this and 2 lithium batteries. Knew would buy 20-volt tools in future. This allowed me to use my 2 old 18 volt saw , drills, and impact wrench.
Got on sale so was happy. I use it many on my saw.
ONLY NEGATIVE. IT IS difficult TO GET THE ADAPTER OUT. ALMOST TAKES 2 PEOPLE. PUSH BOTH SIDES AND 1 TO PULL. POOR DESIGN ON RELEASE. I would not want to have to change adapter multiple times daily. Again, I used mainly to power my old saw and it does that perfectly.

nice batteries, difficult adapter
I purchased this adapter and battery kit in an attempt to continue using my older DeWalt tools, which work perfectly. The batteries lose charge quickly so I've learned to remove them from the adapter when not in use. The adapter itself, however, is nearly impossible to remove from the tool without the use of gorilla strength. Holding the tool between my knees and using both hands to remove the adapter is simply not suitable, especially if you're on a ladder, scaffold or some other elevated platform where you risk dropping the tool or yourself to the ground. Extremely poor design. Seems DeWalt's intention was for us consumers to either purchase an adapter for each of our tools or to purchase all new tools.
