GREAT SAW-FAILED SAW-GOOD SERVICE?
I gave this saw a 5 star rating. Dewalt has a good rep and a good warranty, and the saw did a great job on handling some downed trees. Then it went into the garage until yesterday. On the first cut the saw mad a tink noise and the stopped cutting. It runs fine under no load but will stops almost at once in a cut. I doubt that the total run time on the saw is as much as 8 hours. Sadly, for me, while I think the saw is still in warranty I have not paperwork. The store that sold it is closed. The credit card statement only shows the store order number, and a polite person at Dewalt said the equivalent of "no ticket-no laundry." So that is I suppose my fault. But NO chain saw should FAIL MECHANICALLYy after such a SHORT RUN TIME sawing softwood.
There is a second reason why I cannot recommend DeWalt. The closest authorized service provider is in a town on the far side of the county in a town a higher crime rate than 86% of the state, Car jacking and car burglary are very popular. The business has a YELP rating of 1.6, Come on DeWalt do you really expect people to go to such a place? Of course your center 6.5 hours away has a very good rep,

Burned up the third time I used it. I bought this as a homeowner and used twice around the house for small trees. I pulled it out for the third time and on the second cut the motor started smoking and froze up. Of course out of warranty. I like my dewalt tools but this is a major disappointment.

I bought 3chain saws for work
The oil pump Sistem fails in less then a month
Now I have 2 more because they take 2-3 months to
Fix always short on parts
Had to buy 2 more because of how long it takes
To fix
One of them only lasted one battery charge then
pum was not working anymore new from the box
The oil pump system fails a lot
Chain bar and sprocket don’t last long
I’m thinking of going to another company of chain
Saws like stihl
heard they are very reliable

Saw is OK but customer service is great!
(Follow up review) The saw worked great for over a year of light work. Suddenly one day the chain bound and smoke came out of the plastic housing. The saw was dead.
I tried to contact customer support and while I was able to talk to people the support wasn't great. Then I finally got in contact with a good customer service rep who helped me with my warranty and got my saw replaced. Dewalt may not be perfect but they are truly trying to take care of their customers. I know this is really supposed to be about the saw, but I didn't know where to leave a comment about their customer service. Thanks Dewalt for standing behind your products!

Excellent saw until it wasn't
I have had this saw less than a year. This saw had no problems tackling almost anything I threw at it. It cut just as quickly as any gas saw I've ever used. It was much quieter than any gas powered saw too. However, today as I was cutting some trees that fell during the recent storm the chain bound briefly, I let off the trigger, and smoke came out of the motor housing area. It didn't move at all. I haven't used this saw much at all so I expected more from it. I had to continue cutting the rest with my three year old (cheap not Dewalt) 6" pole saw. That's a little embarrassing for a HD house brand to out perform DeWalt.
I called the service line and they answered quickly. However, they gave information for a service center that doesn't service any outdoor equipment. So I called back and they said they would send me a return label to send it in for repairs. However, the label never came to my email.
I can't recommend this saw which makes me a little sad because almost all my shop tools are DeWalt. Maybe next time.

Rating could be higher except for oily mess
Great saw. Use it to clear trees off my camp trails. Bought the saw a year ago, however its been leaking bar oil constantly. Makes a mess in the truck, side by side and on my kevlar chaps. Found a fix on youtube. The saw has been missing an o- ring on the bar oil filler cap. Waiting for dewalt to give me the size so I can buy one and fix this messy problem.

Works great but only works with FlexVolt battery
I used my new chainsaw to gut down a big Tallow tree. I had three legs of the tree that were around 18" in diameter. No issue cutting down any of them One battery lasted through 2 large cuts and lost of smaller branches. Did find out that it only takes the FlexVolt battery & will not take any of the others.

I have had used gas powered chainsaws my whole life and this tool is very comparable in power to them works great for cutting up even larger trees for fire wood . The battery life is very impressive and the upside to battery power is less maintenance and not having to worry about having fuel on hand

drop in replacement for gas saw
excellent quality and power, I am sure run time will be good as I have the flexvolt grinder which runs all day on one battery and is as powerful as corded grinder. This works as good as a small to medium duty gas saw without the stress of not knowing if I will be able to start it on cold day. I hope Dewalt keeps making the DCST972X1 weed wacker with split boom which takes universal attachments, I am saving my pennies to get one so i convert those tools to battery.
