I really love this machine when it works! Recently, when I squeeze the trigger, it starts up and immediately dies, even on a fully charged battery. I have written to DeWalt support, but no response yet. If someone from DeWalt will contact me, I am hoping we can fix this extremely large paper weight. Thank you

Better than gas...but more trouble
When this trimmer works its great! Unfortunately I've had quite a few issues with mine especially for how little runtime it has. I think this would be an option for anyone with a smaller city lot, however if you have much trimming to do it easily goes through a 9ah battery in under 30 minutes. My first failure with it was with the quick load spool, I replaced that and now a couple of months later the motor smoked and stopped working all together. I will look for something "heavier duty" to replace this, if you don't need long runtimes and don't contend with much more than grass this might still work for you.

Trimmer head jams with weeds
I recieved this trimmer new 2 days ago and have just started using the trimmer. I used this for a short time (1 hour or so) and weeds have got jammed in the trimmer head assembly inhibiting the line from advancing. I have seen this issue crop up a number of times in other reviews. At this time I cannot recommend this for use with long grass and long weeds.

I've had three of these break the same way
I'll start with the good. This trimmer, when it worked, did a solid job trimming my 1/2 acre of field grass. That's the only nice thing I have to say about this trimmer. Now for the bad. First the shield is too small, so I get hit by debris very often. That's not too big of a deal as jeans can protect my legs (although I'd prefer shorts on hot days). The updated trimmer head works a bit better than the previous version, but there is a plastic cap on it that wears through very quickly. Eventually, it wears to the point that a piece will fall off, and the motor will spin off balance. There is no option to replace just the cap, so I need to spend $40 every year to replace the entire trimmer head. I tried calling DeWalt about this, and the representative couldn't identify the part to replace. Now, for the worst part about this trimmer. The motor will stop working. I just had my third motor go out. I will be out in the yard trimming, I'll smell something, and there will be smoke coming from the motor. At this point the trimmer is dead. DeWalt did a good job replacing the first one on warranty, but they charged me $99 for the repair when my 2nd one went out. Now, my 3rd one has gone out, and I'm dreading dealing with the warranty department again. I see that there are many others having the same smoking motor problem, so this is a serious design flaw.

Nice powerful device with bad quality motor
How can DeWalt sell something like this. Do you try to ruin your brand name? De Trimmer when it works does a good job. But it doesn’t work for a long time. Using it for about 5 - 10 minutes it starts to smoke! And after a few times even when stop working as soon as it starts smokin it quits and doesn’t come back to work ever again. I have several of these expensive 60 Volt batteries. And no the device it no useable? This si crazy and makes me sad! How on earth can DeWalt stand for something? I had it in for warranty repair abaout a year ago and now the warranty is passed 2 month and my device it not working anymore. A new motor, probable as weak as the one who broke for the second time, costs abaout USD 150.00+ ! DeWalt needs to act and do something in favor of the costumers who trusted in the name DeWalt and are now disappointed like me! Hope to get something rolling here!

I’m on my 3rd one of these trimmers…all 3 have had the same problem where the motor begins to smoke and quits working. I weed eat from April-Oct and they all seem to quit in September. When the trimmer works, it does a great job. My husband and I have invested a lot of money into the batteries, that’s why I’m on number 3. I don’t like using a gas powered trimmer. The is perfect size for me to use. No gas to worry about. I have had a few batteries seem to get stuck and won’t come out. My husband had to help me there. It’s getting expensive buying trimmers ever year.

Had to give only 3 stars because of the bump head. This is my first season running it hard I'm still on my 1st roll of string the bump head cover is trashed there's a space under the head and the top cover constantly getting packed with clippings and doest allow the string to feed. I'm consistently cleaning it out. Self feed or a redesign would be great

Great tool for the right place, Improvement needed
So this is the second season I have been using this tool. Initially I wish that the head was not so proprietary and was the standard size so I could replace it with a fixed head that uses at least 50% less line. The head itself does not work well especially for a place like mine, I have a 2 acre parcel with some rough and rocky terrain so it eats line and once you get down to under 2 ft of line in the spool it just lets go. I holds up fairly well to my Stihl Although I have the break it up due to charging. I have 2 60 volt batteries and am going to add at least 1 more maybe two, with the cost of the unit plus 4 batteries you can do the math but i feel the fact I have very little maintenance and no fuel it will pay for it self in another season or two, lets hope it is still running then. So long story short I would buy it again and would recommend it to a friend whoever the head needs to go back to engendering and make it more versatile or upgrades for it need to be manufactured for those reasons I would call this a homeowner tool and not a tool for commercial use or for prolonged use as the run time for one 60 volt battery is about 30 minutes give or take.
