My 18volt Makita was ok for light duty, but just wasn't beefy enough for some tough work. Had a contractor who used his and I was impressed. Couldn't be happier. Quality products.

I bought this set after asking my brother for a recommendation when shopping for a gift for my boyfriend. My brother told me he had this exact set and really liked it, and since I trust his judgement, I got the same thing for my boyfriend.
That is where my love for the DeWalt brand started and it's not going to end any time soon. I've been obsessed with this set and have been buying strictly DeWalt ever since. I feel confident using them myself without help and they've held up great for my boyfriend in his daily work.
He's had them for roughly 18 months now and we couldn't be happier with them. He's used them to hang stuff up and fix things around the house for me, takes them to work with him regularly, and has even used them to build our 6ft privacy fence.
Superb craftsmanship and quality!

Parts are replaceable, almost
One of the better drills I have used! The issue I have run into now is that the gear assembly (part 20) is no longer offered for individual replacement. On comparable tools that part is about $25. Customer service was quick and informative but since dewalt will offer to repair the tool at $104, or you can get the entire replacement head $127. This part (as well as the chuck spindle) are rolled into the larger group. There is no reason for this except to make money, this is why I rate this at 3/5. Works great, inevitably after 5 years of use I had an internal failure which by costing now I may as well buy a newer drill. Warning for the DIY repair people out there.

Solid but Lacking the Basics
Ive put both the hammer drill and impact driver through their paces since purchasing them. Ive remodeled our main floor bathroom and finished off half of our basement with them. So lots of 2x4s and plywood. They have both held up great and performed very well. The batteries last all day without needing to be recharged again. I charge one up every evening and then the second the following morning and havent needed to put either back on the charger again. Charge time is rather slow at roughly 35 minutes with a 2/3 charged battery. No biggie obviously, given they hold such a good charge.
My only gripe with this combo is the lack of bit clips and drill/impact bits! I was flabbergasted. The first thing i had to do upon receiving my tools was order bit clips! Fortunately i keep a supply of replacement bits on hand or i would have had to buy those as well. Not good at all! A high end company like Dewalt sends out their top tier hammer drill and impact driver with no bits or bit clips? Dont aggravate your customers by omitting the little things.

I bought the combo 10 months ago and worked great. Last week the impact quit. Not covered by warranty they say because it was bought on ebay. That sucks I did buy another because when it worked it was great .

Originally, I bought this kit so I could have some additional batteries for my sanders and saws. I simply viewed the drill and driver as a bonus. However, I recently finished building a deck with them and let me tell you - I LOVE THESE TOOLS.
I had not owned an impact driver before - it's now my favorite tool. I'll never drive screws with a drill again.
Both are extremely powerful, comfortable, battery life is great, and I love them.

Not what I expected from DeWalt
I've been plumbing 17+ years. I got this as a gift from my company. I was excited to use it. Impact still works great. But the drill started acting up in me. F R switch would get stuck in reverse. Drilling small holes with a hole saw and it smelled as though it was going to catch fire. I've had it almost two years now and the case broke on me, drilling a 4 1/8 hole with hole saw through 7/8 ply. Definitely not quality in my opinion. My 1 1/2 yr old sawzall has also quit working as it should. The whole reciprocating arm is wearing away on the guard and the aluminum casing. Not impressed at all. Where's the pride DeWalt? Your tools use to withstand the job site, people always wanted DeWalt. Now, not so much

I bought this kit 2 weeks ago and very happy with them so far I usually only buy dewalt and never really have any serious issues with last drill has lasted about 5 years now and still running strong on same two batteries since new would def recommened. Only thing I dont like with this kit is that the charger is awkward in the case and always gotta mess with it to close the case correctly.
