They need to test the product before production
Unlocked, this this needs help to make the laser higher. I've gone through 3 of them and I only get it because it fits the huge butt on the laser. The bosch one is so much better. The gears seem to strip just looking at the tool.

Don't buy it even if it's free
Used with Milwaukee 3 plane laser 3632-21. This product will not support the weight of laser, no matter the size of the battery. I thought it was a one off problem with the one I had so I returned it and got another one. The plastic causes the laser to sag, the gears won't hold the weight and strip out. I tried calling Milwaukee tools and they said just to send it back in for repair but they haven't updated the design at all. Definitely not worth the money or any money till they change the design a whole lot.

Workaround for bad design
Professional carpenter of 15 years, and I'm in charge of tool purchasing and repair at the residential construction company I co-own. Same issue as other reviewers, the gear that raises and lowers the laser can't take the weight of the laser. While we wait for a new version, here's a workaround: Tighten the lock nut just a little bit, now gently turn the raise/lower knob while you take some weight off the laser with you other hand. Then tighten the lock-nut down all the way. If you get the lock nut just right, it WILL micro adjust the laser height. Pretty terrible, I know, but I don't have any other option for now. The Bosch 12V laser kit comes with MUCH better height adjustment AND rotation adjustment stands, but my company is all-in on the Milwaukee platform by now.

Yes
I’m a well rounded DIY’er who dabbles in the odd construction side job. I have the USB rechargeable green laser (3522-21, which I love. I was disappointed that it didn’t come with this accessory, but nevertheless picked it up the other day.

The bracket feels heavy and well built, and the magnets are incredibly strong . However both the micro adjustment knob and the lock knob feel “tight”. They are nowhere near as comfortable to use or as responsive as the knob on the laser itself.
