Cuts well but adjustable head broke at hinge
I bought this to replace a Kobalt pole hedge trimmer that failed after a few weeks' use. The Dewalt seemed to be more solidly built and had a longer reach. It also used the same batteries and charger as my other Dewalt hand tools, so that was a big plus. However, after a couple years of casual use, I noticed that the head kept flopping when cutting branches and I found that the housing adjacent to the hinge had cracked in two places on opposite sides of the cutter. I don't see a way to repair the part or replace the head without buying a complete new package. Bummer.

I bought this 20V Max pole hedge trimmer from Home Depot just over 2 years ago and it just stopped working after about 12 uses and perhaps 40 hours of light duty. It came with a 3 year Limited Warranty covering failure due to "faulty materials or workmanship" and not failure due to "normal wear or tool abuse". The tool was not abused. What can go wrong with a tool subject to minimal and light use other than a faulty part or workmanship? DEWALT wants me to agree to a "Guaranteed Repair Charge" before they will even look at it and would not answer this simple question. I have electric tools 40 years old that have never required service and still work perfectly. "Guaranteed Tough" I don't think so. “You buy a machine and what you really get is satisfaction, entire satisfaction.” I don't think so. Do not buy a DEWALT tool with this type of warranty unless you are prepared to pay for DEWALT to honour it.

Works great until it breaks
It's pretty light, easy to work with, with a comfortable handle & trigger. Battery life with a 4Ah battery is about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how tough the material being cut is.
The shoulder strap is a bit useless in my opinion - it awkwardly limits your movement and tends to unclip itself - but it's easily left in the box. I find the tool, with battery, light enough that there's never any need for a shoulder strap.
Unfortunately it seems badly designed, or at least poorly manufactured - the joint which adjusts the blade angle is plastic, and in my experience it cracks and falls apart from normal use. Making it not really fit for purpose. Worse, Dewalt appear to consider this product failure not covered by their warranty.

I initially really liked this and gave it a five out of five in my mind but after a year or so of consumer usage, the detente for the angle function has become very weak and loose and the trimmer now flops around quite a bit when I try to use it so it’s hard to use

I am generally pleased with your product, however it is not quite long enough for some of my jobs. I live on a sloped property with lots of high bushes and I do not feel safe getting up on a step ladder. It would be very helpful if you would sell a removable pole extender of about 3" that would allow me to cut all bushes without using a ladder. I do not think the added torque created by the added length and mass would be that much of an issue because the trimmer would usually be held vertically.

Loved it until the adjustable joint broke
I loved this piece of equipment for all of my trimming but it didnt last long before the part that allows you to angle the saw broke. I wa unable to get it repaired and told it was a manufacturing problem.

9 out of 10 just because it's little heavy
An excellent tool. Use it a lot with no problems. A little heavy but not bad. Is it possible to purchase a chainsaw head that will fit this product?

Just received this the other day. Due to a lot of sloppy weather I have only been able to use it around the house, I cant wait to take it to the farm !! We had some Azalea's that were totally out of whack, only took a few minutes to get those bad boys rounded off and looking great !! The adjustable blade comes in real handy also. I wandered over to my neighbors house and leveled off his hedges too !! Used it for about 20 minutes total and battery still had a charge. Our farm has a lot of out of control bushes and hedges and I can't wait to use it there. Comes with battery and charger which makes this a great buy at about 200 dollars. So now I have an extra 20V battery to go with my 20V drill, vacuum, and air compressor. Just another great product from DeWalt. I will add to this after I get back from the farm !!

Great for hedges, Perfect for sticker bushes.
For me the pole hedge trimmers are the perfect tool for trimming and I have no hedges. I planned on using these trimmers to keep my honeysuckles at bay but discovered a better application with trimming my sticker bush problem. The trimmers extend the perfect distance to get the the base of each plant without getting pricked by thorns. The adjustable head allows for perfect level cutting with the ground level. Adjusting the cutting is simple and easy to do as your terrain and target changes. The trimmer's power and razor sharp blade cut through all the stalks without fail. This task is a struggle for some of the most powerful string trimmers. With all the power this tool has I thought I would be changing batteries a lot or upgrading to the 60v 9ah but this was not the case. I was tired of cutting long before the battery was even half gone. This tool with the 20v 5ah will go the distance. Using the shoulder strap will drastically increase the usability of the trimmer. I would absolutely recommend this purchase.
