DeWalt DWFP1838 1/4" Crown 18GA Finish Stapler

FRUSTRATED!!! Two projects waiting, and got home with a failed to fire staple gun!! I spent the extra $80 for the dewalt and I am beyond frustrated!! I went to 3 other retailers before deciding on my purchase... now wishing i had gotten the cheap one from menards. Staples ARE loaded correctly, air compressor at the right settings... rain is coming in an hour and my project is set up but will not be able to complete. Wish I had read the reviews before hand. NOT HAPPY!

Bought this model at Home Depot 2 weeks ago, and last night when I was ready to staple down a new stair runner - I had the same problems — depress the trigger and nothing happens. I adjusted my air pressure, reloaded the genuine Dewalt Crown Staples, and tried the single vs. multiple settings but nothing worked. After calling Dewalt I was offered mail in Warranty service or a direct exchange at Home Depot. I opted to drive 90 miles to Home Depot and exchanged the staple gun for an identical one. Thankfully when I got home the second one worked as expected on the first try. This has to be a manufacturing defect that Dewalt needs to address.

The staples get loaded into the chamber closest to the firing mechanism. Not by hanging them on the slide just above the springs.

I suspect the reviewers having issues were loading it improperly causing the yellow button not to depress / allow firing. This is because the gun doesn’t detect any staples in the chamber and therefore won’t let you (dry) fire. .. At least that’s the mistake I made - hopefully this helps someone!

Bought this a while ago in preparation for finishing a project. Pulled it out this week, loaded it with DeWalt 5/8" long 18 ga staples, plugged in the DeWalt air compressor (operating between 110 and 118 psi), and it will not fire a single staple. Returned it and got another DWFP1838 but had the same problem. Staples are loaded correctly but the tip will not depress once the magazine is fully closed and locked. The tip will depress as the magazine is pushed in UNTIL it locks in place. Then the tip will not depress allowing the stapler to fire.

I’m new to using tools like these and this product is not only easy to use it works great! I have been helping my husband build a very large chicken coop with an enclosed run and this makes the job of attaching wire to the project simple and very secure.
