I bought a set of metric ratcheting wrenches and usually only use the ratcheting part of it until I needed to use the open end of my 10mm wrench only to find out ot didnt fit. After closer inspection it seems the open end of this wrench is 8.4 mm, so I guess this one got past the inspectors. So I fill out the warranty form and get a case number right away. Now it's been 20 days and I havent heard nothing even after sending an email with no reply to find out progress. Now I might be ok with the time if it had a questionable break, but this is clearly a factory whoops. I will never buy another gearwrench brand tool ever again. This is 3rd time writing this review, not sure what happens.

Excellent quality as always.
I've had a lot of wrenches (double box 120xp, open end 120xp, long pattern) and this ones are up to that quality!. Excellent and the open end ratcheting mechanism is a life saver ( i was skeptical at first, but they really work and they're not weak at all).

Another great set, just short of perfection!
This GearWrench product allows tradesman and enthusiasts to get to awkward jobs and angles as soon as possible. Each GearWrench set is designed for maxim widespread use coverage, and then attempts to add as many secondary beneficial uses along the way. Therefore, these sets will always be available for each job, and there’s full faith they will get the job done. This is approximately my 25th overall GR set, but that comes in all different shapes, size, standard, torque, stuggy, extra-long, and line wrenches to just name a few.
The sheer number of sets offered, particularly wrenches or sets which include an extra feature or two improve reason of use, and the fact they are just as strong as 99.9% of more expensive brands, and that is during 99.9% of your daily workload. Finally, you add the fact GearWrench was and continued to be an innovator in the tooling industry buy improving design features, product offerings, and unique tools, they continue to be exceptionally relevant to those who rely on their tools daily, while also not necessarily being forced to offer us continuous. This review encompasses the GearWrench 72-tooth Open Ended Ratcheting Metric Wrench Set - 12 Pts. - 12 Pieces - with Storage Wrack.
This set offers at least the three unique advantages:
1. The open-ended set has an added mechanism or function. Depending on the fastener’s spot, you may not be able to simply run rocket on that fastener in combination with a universal joint or extender bar. Therefore, adding this quick open ended “lego-piece” allows for access to more angle and joints on a repeated basis. This provides a better x-y angel to the access of the fastener head, in addition the to offering more slip=angles for the open-ended mechanism to catch.
2. The wrenches are generally long enough for maximum torque forces to be used on any given point before failure for each job as the fasteners grow in diameter. I never struggled for torque to generate an (unauthorized to the best of my knowledge) gerrymandered method of gaining more torque by using the open-end and connecting it somewhat loosely to the open end to create a wrench around twice the length. More length from center point of the joint, the more length in arc percentage you will have, which fits into the maximum torque being applied to any given car.
3. The open-ended wrenches have a clear righty-tighty, leftly-loosly, which can be helpful when one is trying to find the best angle and consistently placing the wrench where it is needed via a quick glance. The same goes for each wrench displaying the size in mm’s clearly on both sides.
The only minor improvements I Would recommend:
1. Updating the 72-xp drive to the 120-xp drive by GearWrench. This is an obvious update and would likely just require slipping the gearing components in place, or with slight modifications at the molding factor for fit and finish purposes.
2. I’d suggest adding an “in-line” key selector to switch on the box ratcheting end, in order to maintain the directional setup as needed, and when the wrench needs to ratchet in the opposite way, it would
3. Perhaps offer extended-reach versions (sucb as XL series), or a XL series set marketed as a universal XL Series set by using the universal land mages.
4. Perhaps offer a disassembled access to improve the lifetime and replacement of the wrench terminals, at no more than $1.50 per wrench).

Great tool for those hard to start nuts and bolts
So i had these wrenches for about a week now and I am impressed. I had an older set if these a while back ago and had issues with the open-end of the wrench ratcheting failing. It would alway get stuck and no longer grip well. This newer version of the wrench seems to not have that issue anymore. The ratcheting feature on both ends are nice and responsive. The only issue that i wish is that the wrench was a little longer. I would still recommend it for all types of job fields.

Great wrenches, just not as useful as hoped
Initially when I ordered this 12 Pc. 72-Tooth 12 Point Open End Ratcheting Metric Wrench Set I was hopeful it could become my main set of open end metric wrenches and allow me to carry one or two less sets of wrenches. Unfortunately this set of wrenches is more of a specialty set than an all-purpose set for my uses. That is nothing to detract from the quality or usefulness of the set of wrenches. The main selling point of these wrenches, the ratcheting open end, is also the main reason they cannot -at least for me- be my main everyday wrench set. I'm still pleased I ordered them and they have come in handy a couple times already.
As you'll see from the pictures I posted with my review, the open end of the wrenches uses a really neat ratcheting pawl to accomplish its task. Unfortunately because of the design the wrench can only be used in one direction on the open end. That's fine if your nut or bolt is in a open or unrestricted area. As you will see from the pictures I posted of a standard 10mm Honda battery nut the fact I can only use the wrench in one direction meant I could not flip it over to get access to turn the nut the required small amount to get back to the next set of faces. This made the open end of the wrench unusable in my situation. I ended up just using the closed end to loosen the bolt. This is how I would always do it using my standard set of Gearwrench box wrenches. Not a big deal but it makes this set of wrenches useless for me in that situation as well as a few other situations I have encountered.
I was very happy to see the set includes wrenches all the way down to 8mm. Some auto manufacturers can't seem to move on from the 8mm (looking at you GM). I was also happy to see the set includes a 17, 18 and 19mm. Quite a few of my wrench sets include a 17mm and 19mm but very few of them seem to include the 18mm as well.
When I ordered the wrenches online I expected the orange holder the wrenches came in to be yet another throw away item that just keeps the wrenches looking nice in the store. I was pleasantly surprised to find the holder is actually of pretty sturdy construction. In some areas of my work space I have pegboard and in other parts I have a basic wooden wall that I've put screws in to act as holders for different wrench sets. I was impressed to see gearwrench even took the time to include a spot to hang the wrench set on your pegboard which in my picture is the upper set of indents (in the handle opening) as well as places to put screws through the set (the lower key hole style holes).
Overall a super high quality set of metric ratcheting box wrenches. As the title stated, they are just not as useful as I was hoping they would be.

Best Ratcheting Wrenches On The Market
Gear wrench is always coming up with new and exciting tools. These wrenches are just that. They can ratchet from both sides which if you ever have to use the open side, it does come in handy. They have meet my expectations for their build quality and workmanship. They have an amazing chrome polishing on them that you can almost see yourself. If you are on the fence of buying these, i would highly recommended them. Great tool from a great company.

I got these wrenches since I've been wanting a set to keep in my tool bag, first impressions were they felt as good as they looked. The chrome plating is really well done and the labeling is nice and crisp. They look like a quality set of wrenches. The ratcheting mechanisms in the box end is one of the smoothest I've used, they grip really well and doesn't skip or feel notchy when in use. They fit over bolt and nut heads precisely. The ratcheting open end is particularly useful for those hard to reach and tight areas that other tools may not fit. They get the job done faster. They would be great for the automotive field where efficiency is needed. Overall a great product that I enjoy using.

I chose this wrench set to round out my collection, overall fit and finish is great! The ratcheting action on the open end really helps in tight spots on vehicles. I will definitely be looking out for SAE versions of this set as well, great job Gearwrench!

These wrenches are amazing. It’s hard to find a “full” set of wrenches these days. Not only is this a full set but, they serve their purpose exponentially. The quick bite open end is great for hitting that bolt you need or even give it the “nudge” it needs so you can finger bang it out. The wrack that they come in is also very durable and has a great hold.
