Works well but leaks oil profusely, poor design.
Works great when you need it to BUT.... the oil reservoir is notorious for leaking oil due to poor design. All the "seals" leak, several videos out there showing this problem.
Sent mine in to fix that. It spent >3 months at the service center in Vancouver only for them to just send me a new one with a manual that had "ensure you empty the oil tank every time after cutting" specifically highlighted which, to anyone that uses a chainsaw regularly, is a pathetic joke honestly.
Very disappointed in the slow customer service, poor communication and terrible design flaw. Do better Dewalt, I know you can.

I don't use a chainsaw much, but need one just often enough to be worth buying one. When my old gas-powered saw finally gave up the ghost and I started looking for a "greener" alternative. Wasn't interested in corded, too many downsides to that, but battery-powered devices hold up just fine nowadays so I reviewed several different brands before settling on this one.
The saw itself is fantastic, ergonomically designed, easy to use, and functions exactly as it should. The batteries takes quite a while to charge, but with a 5 or 6 amp hour battery their life is plenty long for cutting down a good sized tree (~ 12" diameter at the base) and turning it into firewood. The 12" bar length seems kinda short, perhaps, but if you know what you're doing it's no limitation for most hobbyists/gardeners dealing with urban environment-sized trees. I've managed to take down a tree more than double the blade length, which is supposedly not possible (or safe), but if you are cautious it works (see attached image).
The chain that comes with this saw, on the other hand, is not so good. It got so dull by the end of thefirst day I used it, it was effectively useless. After replacing it with an Oregon AdvanceCut chain (I used one of their bars as an upgrade too, but that's not necessarily necessary) this is makes one heck of a chainsaw for a very reasonable price. Love the compact, top handle design, and the battery packs are interchangeable with DeWalt's other 20v products. I'm very glad I got it.

Dead due to a reoccuring switch issue
I bought this saw a little over a year and a half ago, I was/am quite impressed by it when it's running. But that's the problem. It frequently doesn't run, the main switch/trigger just clicks. The saw is now completely dead. I've checked on fixes but these seem to involve replacing the faulty switch with a "new" faulty switch.

The saw cuts good but ...
I cut once with the original saw chain. It bounced around too much so I replaced It with an Oregon saw chain. That made a big difference.
The saw cuts good but ...
It leaks oil. What's up with that Dewalt?
If you buy this saw plan on draining the oil after each use. It'll drain itself if you don't.

Horrible Chainsaw; Do NOT Buy!
This thing is terrible at cutting and even worse and leaking oil. Branch and debris regularly clog it, and I had to place it in an oil-friendly tray since it was trashing my garage and clothing with the leakage. This is the only DeWalt tool I've ever hated. I finally became frustrated and threw it in the trash.

Hate it, the oil runs out as fast as i pour it in. I have owned several gas chain saws and have never had this problem. Im near the point of donating this to the landfill. I own Dewalt miter saw, plaqner, 18v impact 20 v grinder, impact and others, dont like the 20v charger but the chainsaw sucks do not but.

I purchased this because I had other DEWALT products and already had batteries. It has now stopped working. I got on YouTube to see if other people had the same issue. It was nice while it lasted but won’t purchase any more.
