I bought this saw last week and finally got time to set it up yesterday. So far I'm happy with it, but it came with a considerable scratch on the table. For the price point, I expect it to be in perfect condition because, afterall, it is a brand new product.

REPLACED A 24 YEAR OLD CRAFTSMAN CONTRACTOR GRADE SCROLL SAW WITH A DW788 SCROLL SAW IN MAY OF 2022. CRAFTSMAN WAS PRETTY MUCH MAINTENANCE FREE. HAVE REPLACED MORE BLADES IN 22 MONTHS THAN IN 5 YEARS WITH THE OLD SEARS USING SAME BRAND OF BLADES . SAW IS SLOW CUTTING AND NOW THE MOTOR HAS QUIT!! AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF YOUR 550 DOLLAR SAW. WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER DEWALT PRODUCT

I have been using this Scroll Saw for 5+ years and it has worked great! I had to replace the fuse twice over the years but that is expected. Just recently I had the dust blower arm come off and am having a heck of a time getting it back on, if y'all have any ideas on how to get it back on I would appreciate the help.

Great scroll saw for beginners or advanced users
I build wooden toys for hospitalized kids, and scroll saw art work as well. I love it, the ease of blade control and clean line of sight of the work piece make this a great tool

Its a very good saw for the most people unless your an expert with lots of money. The blade changing is very easy and can be done in just a few seconds. Every now and then the blade speed varies slightly higher and lower even if you keep it in one spot, but that's not a very major problem. It has very little vibration if mounted right, and a low noise level. So if you're a beginner like I was and want a good saw for the money I would advise this one.

25 years old and still ruining like a clock
For 25 Years my Dewalt has served me well. I use it on a regular basis as I like cutting Madala' fret work and team crests. Only part replaced so far was the chucks and hose on the dust blower

I've been scrolling for over 30 years, and this is by far the best saw I've owned. It was given to me as a gift, and I've been using it now for about 7 years with no maintenance.
Blades change out easily, speed control is easy and effective, and saw has more than enough power. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

I bought my first DW788 in 2010. For reference - in the past 11 years, I have used this single tool as the primary driver of my woodworking business. I bought a second about six years ago, and have put over 1000 hours of use on these machines in that time. I know this machine intimately so here are the pros and cons:
PROS - The 20" throat has the capacity to take on about 95-98% of everything I cut. The quick release blades are a lifesaver and timesaver when it comes to fretwork pieces. Why you would ever own a scrollsaw that is a not a quick release thumbscrew is beyond me. The variable speed is great and is very responsive. You can feel the subtle adjustments while adjusting the speed on the fly which is super helpful with thicker material. I cut puzzles for the majority of the time, and I had to adjust the table for square maybe two or three times in ten years - as in once you have it locked in square - the table is not going to slip on you. However, when you need to adjust - the table moves easier and quickly.
CONS - The air nozzle is the weakest component and the attachment will get brittle and break over time. I have the switch on top break and stop working twice in the past decade, and getting it serviced is not cheap. If it's outside of it warranty - expect to pay around 300$ for any repairs through an official DeWalt shop.
Bottom line - it's just a workhorse. In ten years, I had it break twice - once with the main switch and the motor went out. But again - that is after hundreds of hours of use. If you are using this scrollsaw as a hobbiest or just on occasion - it will be the last saw you will ever need. I can not recommend this saw enough. I convinced my school's shop teacher to invest in these over the Hawk's they had (which were twice as much and he has been really happy. The kids churn out project after project and the saws just work. Again, 500-600$ for a tool is no small thing, but the time, money, and frustration you will save in the long run makes this totally worth it. Stop looking at other saws and just buy this one already.
