I’ve went through two of these right angle drills now. First drill was a disappointment and didn’t last long, motor burnt up after a few times using it. Ordered my second one in June (hoping DeWalt had upgraded the motor), burnt up on the first day of using it. I was using a 5/8 Diablo paddle bit, started getting hot after a short time using it, and then the motor burnt up. Before the two DeWalt angle drills, I had a Ryobi angle drill, and it literally outlasted both of these. I’d hoped I had just gotten a bad one on the first one I bought, but obviously not. Would not purchase this drill until DeWalt comes out with a better version.

Comes in handy, not a bad tool
Its not the greatest quality, but it definitely comes in handy from time to time. To my knowledge, this is the only right angle drill DeWalt makes, which I find a little disappointing. I also don't like that its only a 3/8" chuck, because it prevents me from using some of my bigger hole saws and augers. As a trade professional, I would absolutely buy a "XR" or "Atomic" right angle drill with a half inch chuck.

Three failed motors - brushes fail
The unit has lots of torque and basically works as advertised. However, the brushes in the motor keep failing. This occurs after the motor has stalled several times drilling with a larfe spade in seasoned wood. I use a 4AH battery witht he drill.
There is no over-current protection for the motor and generally it runss very hot under load. A re-design wiith a brushless motor like the Rigid or Ryobi models would be appreciated

I had a similar experience to a few other reviewers here. On the first house I ran wire in, this thing burned up. When I was drilling 3/4 into the studs, this thing was butter. However, when I had to drill through the sill plate, it got bogged down and I began to smell burning plastic and seeing black smoke coming from the drill. It still works, but it gets piping hot after maybe 5 minutes of work. I would not recommend. If you’re trying to drill holes, pony up for a hole hog.

I have been using this angle driver for over 3 yrs now every day for work. It started having an electrical connection problem. I sent it into DeWalt and for $79.00 they restored it to new. I bought a second one now as a spare since it use it every day. Could not be happier with this Drill!

The quality of this item is built for the professional, but Dewalt did one better, pricing this for the consumer. Great quality, good features, and reasonable pricing.
