This is a great tool for work around the house. Take a look at the photos! I've had a double gate fence locked up for years with vines and leaves. I cleaned up the leaves then used this one-handed reciprocating saw to cut through all the vines and finally open the gate!
I also own the larger two-handed sawsaw and this is the one I recommend for home use. It will handle all small to medium projects. If you're a carpenter get the 20v two-handed. Love them both

Love the power and the ability to use it one-handed. You'd think that 12volts would mean less power but that is not the case. This saw is powerful and small. I not it's not meant for tree pruning but I love it for that. I had branches blown down in a storm and this was a joy to clean them up with. I could hold the branch with one have and saw in the other. I have other 12v tools, the drill, and the impact driver so this was a great addition. Thanks, DeWalt for a nice design.

Perfect Size with Plenty of Power
So far I've used this to cut into my ceiling to repair a wet spot and to cut off old deck boards to replace with new wood. Super clean cuts on the ceiling and strong enough to easily cut through the deck boards. The size makes it easy to use with one hand if needed. The blades are easy to change. Battery charges fast and has lasted through both projects so good power in this tool. Excited to use this at our camp this summer to trim tree branches along our walking paths.

I received this DeWalt DCS312 12 Volt Max Brushless Saw to evaluate.
I had shopped for this or a similar type saw, Thinking it would be an easy to use "Pruning" saw. I have used Reciprocating saws to trim trees and bushes for years, Finding them invaluable for root cutting, and trimming over head limbs,
A family friend had asked me to suggest a chain saw that she could use for such purposes. I had suggested a Recip-saw However she would be unable to hold/carry or operate a full size Battery powered saw for any length of time,
I even suggested one of these One Handed Saws, The 20 volt offering still seemed to heavy for her to use Or even myself for over head work on a ladder for example.
This offering from Dewalt fit the need Exactly!
Small and light enough, With enough power to do the task at hand.
The Saw kit came with everything I needed, The saw, Two Dewalt branded blades, One Metal cutting, And one for wood, (1) 12 Volt 3AH battery and a charger. All packed in a zippered kit Bag,
Upon inspection, The tool fits the hand well, It is listed as a "One Handed Saw" The Owners Manual strongly suggests a two handed grip,
It has a well designed Blade Clamp, Sure and Solid, Positive grip. I feel it's the best blade clamp I have used, I've owned several different recip-saws over the years.
During testing I Discovered it worked well, It weighs in at just 3 pounds bare, And punches above it's weight, The fixed shoe seemed odd at first, And after half an hour of use I no longer even noticed.
While pruning, with a 9 inch pruning blade, Note The manual suggests 3 to 4 inch blades. The tool ran well for 25 minutes Intermittent use, The battery is small, and I feel that duration was as expected,
Over-all I think this is a great tool, Won't take the place of your full sized Recip-Saw
And my friend has used it for 4 days, And was thrilled with it's capability

Awesome Addition to the Tool Box
The compact reciprocating saw was added to my tool box about a month ago. The tool offers a light weight tool without the absence of power needed to complete my projects. The tool has allowed me to get into some places where my other saw would present a challenge. I recommend this tool for both a novice and a pro.

Compact, versatile, and controllable. Recip saws are awesome, but they are generally destructive. This thing gives you control, since it is small, lightweight, and not so powerful. Obviously being a 12v it’s not made fir cutting off a roofline, but for indoors where control and precision are important, this is the tool. But, even being smaller and less powerful than the bigger recip saws, it still has plenty of power. I used it to cut through brass plumbing fixtures with no problem. Sure it took a little longer, but I also didn’t tear the rest of the plumbing out of the wall at the same time! I love this tool!

It’s a great tool to have it doesn’t take much space, but is really useful, I have use it to take pallets apart and cut small tree branches. It can handle a lot of tasks, definitely a recommended tool to have.

This tool was great recently used it while rebuilding old wooden stair railing. Overall it did awesome. The battery lasted longer than anticipated which surprised me. Carry bag that came with the tool was a definite plus. Only negative is the quality of the blade that came with the tool, it only lasted a couple of cuts but once I put in a Diablo blade it cut like butter!

The reciprocating saw works great. The light is perfect for dark spaces like under a cabinet. The 12 volt is good for tight spaces. It is easy to hold with one hand. This tool is great for homeowners and professional alike. The only problem I had with this tool is I wish it came with 2 batteries because all my tools are 20v so when the battery dies I have to wait to charge it before I can use it again.

Cuts bigger than it looks
Tight space? Hanging off a rafter or scaffold and only have one hand left? This is no question the saw for you. We worked it hard don't let the little size and battery fool you. We removed wall studs, cut ac ducts, drywall and trim and still had battery, cuts like butter lightweight easy to handle and best part-- A LIGHT for tight dark spaces Why we didn't get one earlier ? Think we were fools.
